Our Signature Program

Commercial Driver’s License Training Program (CDL B)

The Lazarus Rite Inc. is a registered training provider listed on FMCSA’s Training Provider Registry and is in compliance with the new Entry-Level Driving Training (ELDT) curriculum.

This program is an entry-level class that prepares participants for a career in the trucking industry. Participants will be able to operate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 26,001 pounds and over besides those combination vehicles requiring a CDL A. 


The curriculum will consist of: 

Theory:  

• Basic Operation 

• Safe Operating Procedures 

• Advanced Operation Procedures 

• Vehicle Systems and Reporting Malfunctions 

• Non-Driving Activities (e.g., Hours of Service) 


Behind-The-Wheel (BTW):  

  • Actual operation of a CMV (commercial motor vehicle) 
  • Takes place on a range or public road  
  • Basic vehicle control skills and mastery of basic maneuvers   


Upon completion of required program with a minimum of 80% passing score, driver-trainee’s training certification will be submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (Effective February 7, 2022)


Dates and Times of Program:

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 6pm – 9pm  

Saturday – 10am - 2pm (Behind the Wheel)

Entry-Level Heavy Equipment Operator Training Program

This program is designed to prepare participants for an entry level career in the construction, landscaping and highway industries to operate the most common types of equipment found on the job site. Students will learn the theory and basic operational techniques, safety and general background knowledge on each equipment type. 


The curriculum will consist of: 

  • Safely using equipment at a work site 
  • Performing inspection and equipment startup 
  • Identifying preventive maintenance issues 
  • Practicing digging and trenching operations 
  • Moving and grading materials 
  • Loading vehicles and securing materials 
  • OSHA Certification 


Dates and Times of Program 

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 6pm – 9pm 

Saturday – TBD

Additional Curriculum

Adult Basic Education

This program is offered through our partnership with Baltimore City Community College (BCCC). The instructional goal is to assist participants with earning their Maryland high school diploma by preparing them to take four (4) GED exams (Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA), Mathematical Reasoning (Math), Social Studies and Science).

Professional Communication

Participants learn how to use effective communication to improve both personal and professional relationships.

Resume-Writing Skills

Assistance will be provided to help participants create a resume and write cover letters to apply for jobs. 

Interviewing Skills

Using role-playing exercise and practicing answering common questions, participants learn how to complete a successful interview with a level of confidence to get the job.

Introduction to Basic Financial Literacy

This program is designed to empower participants to change their lives by practicing good financial habits. Topics to include: Budgeting and Planning, Avoiding Pitfalls, Saving Strategies, Understanding Credit and Debt and Saving for the Future.

Time Management

Participants learn the importance of planning and prioritizing, dealing with and controlling interruptions, setting boundaries and managing stress through effective time management tools. 

Job Placement Assistance

Participants will meet their mentor prior to completion to discuss employment strategies and career opportunities available.

Civic and Ethics Training

The participant will learn the importance of understanding individual and group behavior and how it affects the dynamics of criminal justice reform and community. This will include discussion around Voters Education and its influence in local, state and federal governance.  

Wrap-Around Services

To be successful, each participant will receive individualized and structured guidance based on their needs.

Program Statistics

A total of 145 formerly incarcerated participants enrolled in the training program since its first class in Fall, 2016. 

50 (or 34  percent) obtained a Class B Commercial Driver License with Airbrake, Passenger and Tanker endorsements. Of those, 42 (or 84 percent) successfully obtained employment as commercial drivers earning an average wage of $18.52 an hour. 

36 (or 22 percent are current CDL permit holders awaiting test dates.

32 (or 22 percent completed the job readiness training program.

7 (or 5 percent were placed in non-driving, warehousing positions earning an average wage of $14.00 an hour.
